A fair is evolved through innovation and its special parallel events. So, DPOINT, which was launched last year during Furnidec 2013 with a tribute to the modern Greek industrial designers, wished to point out precisely this; that the fairs form an opportunity to show special ideas that concern the market. Still, the DPOINT idea, after the last year’s tribute to the modern history of Greek design, was evolved with the DPOINT project hotel.
The DPOINT project hotel was a parallel event held during Furnidec 2014 (4-6/10) and managed to constitute a point of inspiration for the hotel construction and renovation sector. The project aimed at showing complete solutions through the design and construction of hotel rooms by a team of specialized professional architects and industrial designers. The designers who were responsible for the 5 different hotel room concepts were the following: Sotiris Lazou (industrial designer), Andreas Varotsos (industrial designer), Aspasia Taka (architect engineer), Manolis Metrides (architect engineer) and Giorgos Pitarokilis (mechanical engineer, industrial designer).
Each one was called to form in his own way, own aesthetics and most of all, his own perception about how a hotel room should be.
Fresh and modern ideas were reflected into the model rooms which have been a pole of attraction for the visitors. On Sunday, second day of the event, the About My Hotel Project workshop was realized where the creators themselves presented their installations providing explanations, clarifications and answers to the hundreds of participants’ questions.

Let’s “get into” the rooms for a while…
My Libra Project
Motivated by the concept of balance, Sotiris Lazou showed an alternative version about how the 3* hotels should be. Why design and high aesthetics are only found at the luxurious hotels? The so –called right balance between quality and price constitutes the ideal solution through a project focused on man and his needs.

The French name which means “the island of the city” was referred to a room able to “stand” both in an urban and rural ambient. Inspirer of the concept was Giorgos Pitarokilis.

Goal of the specific event was not just to impress but to create new business opportunities for all exhibitors. Besides, this year’s DPOINT project hotel was the result of international research, in organization and realization level as well as in order to adopt new trends and opportunities which globally exist.
It is not by coincidence the fact that the last few years similar events are hosted in several foreign fairs mostly aiming at upgrading the exhibition product, improving the visitors’ experience and attracting a wider public (architects, hoteliers, construction companies etc.) except for the traditional visitors like furniture traders
Therefore, an organizer managing to attract such new visitor categories that are added up to the traditional public of a trade furniture fair, forms an innovation for the Greek standards, regarding the exhibitors’ experience as well as the substantial opening of new business opportunities.
At this moment, what in marketing terms we call contract business, constitutes a significant opportunity in the European and international markets in order to make up for the lost ground caused from the decline of the consumption power. In Greece where tourism is considered the heavy industry that will restart the Greek economy, the above mentioned become even more important given that the hotel sector is strictly connected with the progress of tourism.
DPOINT II has been more than successful… until the next one!
